No Trance? No Fair!

Check it:
San Francisco LoveFest 2007

I just realized that LoveFest (formerly known as Love Parade) is this weekend, and I really want to go, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to. Missing it would suck…I wasn’t able to make it last time so I vowed to go this year.  As I’m not one to skulk about random underground warehouse parties (it’s all junior high kids now!) and there are no more huge, crazy commercial raves in the area, going to LoveFest reminds me of the golden era of the trance scene.  There’s nothing like a pulsing, synthesized bass beat to put a huge smile on my face. =D

If you’ve never watched the parade, or attended the afterparty at the civic center plaza, or the after-afterparty, or the parties after that (seriously…nobody sleeps when LoveFest comes to town), then you don’t know what you’re missing.  If you hate trance, it’s still a wonderful visual treat.  If your feelings towards trance are lukewarm, this event could well push you into the infatuation stage.  And if you have a full-blown case of trance love/lust/obsession, well, then, you’ve had this date circled on your calendar for the past 364 days and I need say nothing further.

There are no good trance clubs in San Francisco.  On a side note, there are also no decent hip hop (my other musical preference) clubs here either…what is up with that?!  Anyway, if I’m lucky, sometimes there will be a good DJ spinning at a random club that I hear about through word of mouth.  But usually I’m at a party and a DJ might play a few anthem hits…that’s normally the only public trance fix (heh, I’m so tempted to do a pun here but I’ll refrain from the obvious) I get.  LoveFest is my annual chance to listen to a lot of good trance spun by a who’s who list of DJs at countless venues.  Outdoors in the heart of the city?  Check.  Ambient?  Check.  Progressive?  Check.  Jungle?  Check.  In a gorgeous landmark historical building?  Check.  The Chemical Brothers, Sasha, and Skills & Spundae?  Check, check, and check!  Oh how I love LoveFest!!!

There are two reasons why I’ll probably miss LoveFest.  The first issue is time.  I already have plans Saturday morning and night, so squeezing in the trance-athon during the afternoon will be kind of tricky.  The second issue is company, or lack thereof.  Everyone in my life who would normally be interested in going with me is unavoidably busy with activities like being out of town, working overtime, etc.  Ugh!  I’m all for independent females, but I would not go to LoveFest alone (ask me about the traumatic occurrence that happened last time involving a nasty guy, dog collar and public full-frontal nudity at the main stage…eeewww!) because that’s just asking for trouble.

So…odds are slim that I will get to go watch the trance extravaganza.  But if you, my dear Friendster friend, are reading this and want to check it out…definitely hit me up and we’ll try and make it work. Otherwise, I’m going to have to plan a trip to Europe shortly to get a proper trance fix . Not that I have a problem with that…but it would a few thousand dollars cheaper to go to LoveFest this weekend!
